As you work towards your Level 2 Playworker apprenticeship with our trusted partner, Storyy Training, you’ll gain valuable hands-on experience, make lasting friendships, and grow both personally and professionally.

Start your career in childcare while gaining a recognised Level 2 Playworker qualification. You’ll earn a wage, gain real hands-on experience, and receive support from both your workplace and education provider. Additional support is available for GCSE resits if needed.

Working hours to fit education

Work for 2 hours in the morning and 3.75 in the afternoon.

Playworker Level 2 FAQ

  • What will I learn?

    • How to support children through play-based learning, encouraging them to take responsibility for themselves and their play in a fun, stimulating, and adventurous environment
    • How to plan and provide engaging, ever-changing play environments that allow children to choose how and what they play
    • How to observe and support children’s development, engagement, and wellbeing, ensuring both their physical and emotional safety
  • Who is it for?

    This apprenticeship is ideal for those looking to build a career in playwork and childcare, particularly within wraparound settings. You may work with children in environments such as:


    • Breakfast clubs, after-school clubs, and holiday clubs
    • Wraparound care within primary school settings
    • Play-based activities in indoor and outdoor environments
    • Holiday programmes and enrichment activities
    • Community-based childcare and play provision

    With opportunities to progress and gain further qualifications in childcare as you develop.

  • Entry requirements

    There are noprevious qualifications or age

    restrictions for this course. Apprentices must have:


    • Have held a residency in the UK for the last three years.


    • Learners aged 16-18 must complete Functional Skills English and Maths whilst on programme if previously not secured a grade 4 (C) or above in GCSE maths and English.

  • Funding

    • This apprenticeship is funded through the Government Apprenticeship scheme
    • 100% funded for employers who pay into the Apprenticeship Levy
    • 95% funded for non-levy employers, with a 5% employer contribution (£250 per learner)
  • What skills will I develop?

    Communicate sensitively using relevant language and behaviour.


    • Promote diversity and inclusion in Playwork practice.


    • Identify ways to remove barriers which can prevent some children and young people playing.


    • Undertake reflective observations to improve own practice and the quality ofthe provision for children and young people.


    • Contribute to play audits.


    • Promote the value andbenefits of play for all children and young people.


    • Recognise the benefits ofrisk taking inplay and contribute to dynamic risk-benefit assessment.


    • Recognise that children and young people communicate with a range of different types of behaviour and may need Playworker support.

  • End Point Assessment

    • Professional Discussion Supported by a

    portfolio of evidence.


    • Observation with questioning in the workplace.


    • Multiple choice questions test.

  • What will success look like?

    Understand individual children’s needs and behaviours, as well as their likes and wants in playing.


    • Support individual children’s emerging capabilities and competences.


    • Understand how to better resource the play environment so that children are provided with opportunities to engage with the elements and their senses to explore.
