Playworker Level 2 FAQ
What will I learn?
• How to care for and support children in taking responsibility for themselves and their own playing whilst creating a stimulating and adventurous space for children to learn and explore in their own way, following their own intent, ideas and inventions.
• How to plan for and provide an ever-changing environment that allows children to choose what and how they play.
• How to observe and monitor this play for children’s development, engagement and safety, both physical and emotional.
Who is it for?
This apprenticeship is suitable for playworkers who work with children in voluntary, public or private settings including:
• Breakfast, after-school clubs and holiday clubs.
• Adventure playgrounds and mobile play settings.
• Play sessions in hospitals, refugees and prisons.
• Play Ranger sessions in outdoor areas such as parks and woodlands.
• Playschemes in sports and leisure facilities.
Entry requirements
There are noprevious qualifications or age
restrictions for this course. Apprentices must have:
• Have held a residency in the UK for the last three years.
• Learners aged 16-18 must complete Functional Skills English and Maths whilst on programme if previously not secured a grade 4 (C) or above in GCSE maths and English.
Funding
• £5000 for this 18-month course.
• 100%fundedforthose settingswhopay into the Government apprenticeship Levy.
• 95% funded for non-levy setting, a 5%
employer contribution of £250 perlearner.
• An employer incentive payment of £1,000 is available for new apprentices aged 16 to 18 and those under 25 with an Education, Health, and Care Plan.
What skills will I develop?
Communicate sensitively using relevant language and behaviour.
• Promote diversity and inclusion in Playwork practice.
• Identify ways to remove barriers which can prevent some children and young people playing.
• Undertake reflective observations to improve own practice and the quality ofthe provision for children and young people.
• Contribute to play audits.
• Promote the value andbenefits of play for all children and young people.
• Recognise the benefits ofrisk taking inplay and contribute to dynamic risk-benefit assessment.
• Recognise that children and young people communicate with a range of different types of behaviour and may need Playworker support.
End Point Assessment

portfolio of evidence.

What will success look like?
Understand individual children’s needs and behaviours, as well as their likes and wants in playing.
• Support individual children’s emerging capabilities and competences.
• Understand how to better resource the play environment so that children are provided with opportunities to engage with the elements and their senses to explore.
